Slat Master Chain Link
Slat Master Chain Link Fence Installation in Humboldt County
Chain link fencing with privacy slats built into the mesh at the factory. The security and cost-effectiveness of chain link, plus 95% visual privacy in a single integrated product.
Slat Master is a product category rather than a generic fence type. It's chain link fence mesh with privacy slats pre-woven into the mesh at the factory, as opposed to standard chain link where you buy the mesh, install it, and then slide individual plastic slats through the diamonds afterward. Integrated factory installation makes for a tighter, more uniform look and about 95% visual opacity, significantly better than retrofit slats (75, 90%) and close to what a solid panel would give you.
We install Slat Master across Humboldt County for clients who want the security and cost profile of chain link plus the privacy of wood or vinyl, in a single product. It's not the right material for every site, historic districts, bay-front wind exposure, and some residential applications are better served by wood or iron. But for commercial sites, rental properties, side yards, and anywhere chain link is already the right structural choice, Slat Master is usually the best path to privacy.
Where Slat Master beats alternatives
Vs. standard chain link with retrofit slats. Retrofitted slats look cheap up close. You can see the slats loose in the mesh, they shift in wind, and they don't reach all the way to the top rail. Slat Master sits tight against the mesh and reads as a single integrated product.
Vs. wood privacy fence. Slat Master is meaningfully more economical per linear foot and zero- maintenance (no sealing, no board replacement). Wood wins on aesthetic warmth; Slat Master wins on cost and durability.
Vs. vinyl privacy fence. Vinyl is prettier up close and has a wider style range; Slat Master is significantly cheaper per linear foot and handles impact (a vehicle bump, a stray branch) much better than vinyl.
Vs. wrought iron. Slat Master is dramatically cheaper. Iron is genuinely more beautiful and right for historic or estate applications; Slat Master is right for everyday commercial and residential privacy.
Specification choices
Height. Slat Master is available in standard chain link heights: 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 ft. Most residential installs are 6 ft; most commercial are 7 or 8 ft.
Color. Black is standard and most popular (by a wide margin). Dark green is common for sports facilities. Beige/tan is available. Colors are integrated into the PVC coating of the mesh, not painted on. They don't fade or chip.
Mesh gauge. Same options as standard chain link, 11 or 11½ gauge for residential, 9 gauge for commercial, 6 gauge for industrial or high-security. The slat weave doesn't affect structural spec.
Post spec. Same heavy-duty chain link posts, concrete footings, and tension-wire setup as standard chain link. Corner and gate posts upsized as always.
Common applications
- Commercial privacy perimeters: storage facilities, mechanical yards, contractor yards where you want privacy but chain link's cost and durability are appropriate
- Dumpster and trash enclosures: the standard commercial ask, approved by most city codes
- Residential side yards: where privacy matters but a full wood fence isn't worth the cost
- Pool enclosures: with appropriate spacing and pool-code compliance review
- Rental properties: zero-maintenance, impact-resistant, works across many tenancies
- Sports facilities: ball fields and tennis courts where privacy and ball containment both matter
Cost and timing
Slat Master sits between bare chain link and wood or vinyl privacy in pricing, a modest premium over standard chain link, and meaningfully less than equivalent wood or vinyl privacy. Taller heights and commercial gauges add to the quote. Request a free estimate for your specific site.
Install timing is standard chain link, 2, 3 working days for a typical residential run. Post day, 24-hour concrete cure, install day.

Slat Master chain link FAQs
What makes Slat Master different from regular chain link with slats?
Standard privacy slats are inserted into the chain link mesh after the fence is installed. You weave them through the diamonds one by one. Slat Master is a factory product where the slats are pre-woven into the chain link mesh at manufacture, creating a tighter, more uniform look and better wind performance because the mesh is engineered around the slats.
How much privacy does Slat Master provide?
Around 95% opacity, significantly higher than retrofitted slats (75, 90%) because the factory weaving leaves almost no visible gaps. From normal viewing distances, Slat Master looks like a solid panel. Up close you can see the mesh texture through the slats, which reads more industrial than wood or vinyl.
What colors are available?
Primarily black, dark green, and beige/tan. Black is by far the most popular for residential and commercial applications. It reads as clean and understated. Green is common for sports facilities and properties with significant landscaping. Beige/tan is available for sites where something lighter fits better.
Does Slat Master cost more than regular chain link with add-on slats?
Yes, modestly, Slat Master is a step up from installing standard chain link and retrofitting slats separately. The premium is worth it for residential applications where the look matters; for construction-site temporary privacy, retrofitted slats are still the more economical option.
Is Slat Master good for windy sites?
Better than retrofit slats, worse than shadowbox wood. Because the slats are integrated with the mesh, the fence acts more like a solid panel and catches wind accordingly. On exposed bayfront or ridge-top sites we may recommend shadowbox redwood instead. On more sheltered or commercial sites, Slat Master performs fine.
Where does Slat Master make sense?
Commercial sites that want privacy without the cost of wood or vinyl (dumpster enclosures, mechanical yards, storage facilities), residential side-yards where chain link is already the right call, pool enclosures (meets spaced-picket pool code when designed correctly), and rental properties where maintenance needs to stay low.
